WigJig Jewelry Tools Presents our Jewelry Making Newsletter -- AKA Boomer Sez:

Our Spokesdog:  If an insurance company can have a gecko, we have decided that we can have a spokesdog.  Boomer, shown at right, is our spokesdog

Frequency of Newsletters:  As you can imagine it takes some time and effort to produce this newsletter.  Since we do not charge for the newsletter, the only way we get compensated for producing the newsletter is when people make purchases in our store.  When people make purchases within two days of our sending a newsletter, we interpret that purchase as a vote to keep the frequency of the newsletter at every two weeks.  When people don't make purchases within two days of our sending a newsletter, we interpret that as a vote to send our newsletters less frequently.  Lately, we've been getting fewer votes to send our newsletters every two weeks.  For this reason, going forward we plan on adjusting the delay between sending our newsletters according to the votes we receive.  Our readers can influence this delay by placing orders within two days of receiving our newsletter.  This is basically supply and demand at work.  We will adjust the supply of newsletters to match the demand.  Boomer sez vote early and vote often.

10mm Round Emerald CZ GemstoneComment on Bling Jewelry:  We received the following comment on our Bling jewelry from Angel Messer.

"I ordered this set (10mm Round Emerald CZ item 3253 shown at right), with a six prong sliver earring setting to go with it, and it took less than a minute to set both stones.  Then less than a minute to tighten them into their settings with a bent nose pliers.  I received them right around Christmas time and was so pleased with them that I wore them for a week straight and everywhere I went.  I got ooo's and ahhh's and "Boy Santa was sure good to you!!!!"  One lady even had the nerve to ask how much they cost and I just looked her right in the eye and smiled real big!!!!  These earrings are gorgeous.  They do need to be worn with the wider clutch back, rather than the small butterfly, though, for better support, otherwise they will droop on your ear lobe.  I am a jeweler's daughter and these pass VERY well for excellent emeralds, all the color and fire and depth you buy an emerald for.  I know where to buy my emeralds now.  Thanks, Gary."

Boomer sez a BIG WigJig lick on the cheek thank you to Angel for her very kind comments.

'Wonderful, Wearable Wire' Jewelry Making BookNew Prices:  Sometime in February we will be adjusting the prices on our Bling jewelry.  We currently have our lowest prices and will be increasing the prices on almost all items.  The reason for our price increase is simply that our main supplier has notified us that they will increase their costs to us for their products.

While the price of our Bling jewelry will increase in the future, the price for our book,"Wonderful, Wearable  Wire" has decreased.  The new retail price for this book is now $22.95.  This is a savings of $7 from our original price.

Free Jewelry Making Design:

Onion Dome Jewelry Wire Earrings with Beads Jewelry Making Project with Swarovski BeadsOnion Dome Jewelry Wire Earrings with Beads Jewelry Making Project with Crystal BeadsWith every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design fromWigJig University to spur the creative juices.  The new design for this newsletter is the design for the Onion Dome Jewelry Wire Earrings with Beads jewelry making project.  The name for these earrings is a little strange and refers to the Russian architectural technique called the onion dome roof used in many Russian Orthodox Churches.  These earrings are similar in shape to the onion dome roof.  (We might have called them onion earrings, but the vegetable onion can cause bad breath when eaten raw and for this reason failed our selection criteria for earring names.)  For a beginner, we recommend making these earrings in 18 gauge wire.  For intermediate wire workers, we would recommend 16 gauge.  Advanced wire workers might even want to try 14 gauge.  This project works best with soft wire.

These earrings were made on our WigJig Centaur, but this design could be adapted to any WigJig tool.  Making these earrings requires two 1/2 inch Super Pegs for your jig.  For the Centaur or Delphi you can view these Super Pegs here

Past Jewelry Making Techniques:

We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters.  You can visit this web page here.  Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter. Jewelry Wire Circles with Beads Necklace Jewelry Making Project made on WigJig jewelry tools.

Jewelry Wire Circles Necklace Pattern on WigJig jewelry making tools.Current Jewelry Making Technique:

This weeks jewelry making technique is a design for making a necklace component to go with our circles earrings from our prior newsletter.  This design is slightly larger than the earrings and is therefore bolder which is appropriate for a necklace.  The peg pattern for the design is shown at right and uses four Super Pegs and one regular metal peg.  The component itself is shown at left.    The Super Peg used for peg 2 is a 3/4" Super Peg from our set of Large Round Super Pegs.  Peg 3 is a 1/2 inch Super Peg.  Peg 4 is a 5/16" Super Peg and peg 5 is a 3/16" Super Peg.

The technique for making this necklace component is identical to the approach that we used for making the earrings with one exception.  For the earrings you required a modified figure 8 connector.  For the necklace you will need an ordinary figure 8 connector.

We suggest using 16 gauge soft wire to make this component.  If you need to you can use a nylon hammer to hammer the wire against the Super Pegs to help set the shape.  Many light taps are used.  You won't be able to hammer all points of the design, but even a little hammering with a nylon hammer will help to set the shape.

If you are the type person who likes really bold earrings you could use this design for earrings.  Boomer assures us that the Loop Police won't be checking to see if anyone is wearing a necklace component as earrings.

Nostalgia Corner -- Some of our favorite jewelry making designs:Wrapped Jewelry Wire Bling Bracelet with Beads made using WigJig jewelry tools and jewelry supplies.

This weeks featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for our Wrapped Wire Link Bracelet with Beads shown at right.  This bracelet is based upon a wire link that we call the wrapped link for the simple reason that it is made of thin gauge wire wrapped around itself.  This particular link is very similar to a Bali-Style Beads design called Rope for the simple reason that it looks like rope wrapped tightly around a central core.  The wWrapped Jewelry Wire Link Jewelry Making Componentrapped link is made with 20 or 22 gauge half-hard jewelry wire and is easier to make with 22 gauge wire so beginners should try that first.  It is possible to make this link with soft wire, but it is much easier to make with 1/2 hard wire, so as you practice this link with your soft practice wire, remember that it will be easier to make the finished pieces with your good jewelry wire.  You can view a close up of the wrapped jewelry wire link itself, above-left.
