WigJig Jewelry Tools Presents our Jewelry Making Newsletter for March 31, 2003

We are continuing to improve our newsletter, so please feel free to provide feedback at

During this time of war, we ask all our readers to consider giving to the USO.  The Department of Defense recommends that people pursue this vehicle for reaching out to a service man, rather than directly sending any packages to a soldier, sailor, marine or Coast Gaurdsman that you don't know.  You can get to the USO web site for directions on how to donate by selecting here, or by going directly to their web site at

Money ($) Earrings

This weeks jewelry project uses two new colors of 6mm bicone Swarovski crystal beads.  The earrings shown at far left use the new Black Diamond color.  The earrings at near left use the Blue Zircon color.  Not shown is the new Erinite color which is a light shade of green.  The earrings that we will make in this project are called Money Earrings because of their resemblance to a dollar sign.

We update the items we have on sale at discounted pricing with every newsletter.  A small sample of the products we currently have on "sale" are shown below.  Please click on any item below to view our entire selection of sale items.  Quantities are limited for these items so please shop early.

With every newsletter we provide a free design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  This newsletter's free design is the Money ($) Earrings shown at right.  These earrings were made using 20G gold-filled wire, 24G gold filled wire and two 6mm beads per earring.  The earrings can be made on any WigJig as long as you have two Super Pegs for that jig that are the same size, preferably 5/8, 3/8 or 1/2 inch size.  The earrings shown at right use two 6mm round Ruby beads from our Internet store.  This project is relatively easy.  After a little practice you should be able to make a pair of these earrings in about 15 minutes.  The instructions provided will show you how to make these earrings in one of three sizes according to the Super Pegs you use.

Jewelry Making Technique of the week:

Our WigJig University wire-working technique for this newsletter is the basic technique of opening and closing loops.  This technique is employed in connecting anything to an ear wire finding, and is used in the jewelry project above.  It is a basic technique and will probably be second nature for most experienced wire-workers.  Please remember when opening a jump ring, figure 8, or any loop, twist both sides of the opening apart as shown at right.  Never open a wire loop that you intend to use again by pulling it apart.
