SpokesDog Boomer for Beads, Jewelry Tools and Jewelry Making Supplies by WigJig Web SiteWigJig Jewelry Tools Presents our Jewelry Making Newsletter -- AKA Boomer Sez:

Our Spokesdog:  If an insurance company can have a gecko, we have decided that we can have a spokesdog.  Boomer, shown at right, is our spokesdog.  If you select Boomer's picture at right, you will be able to view Boomer at his work.

How to Unsubscribe:  If you signed up for our newsletter and then decided you don't want to receive it any more, the proper way to unsubscribe is to select the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of every newsletter e-mail or to follow our sign up link above.  On that sign up page we also provide a way for people to unsubscribe.

How to Search on our Website:  Many people tell us that we have a large web site and that they have difficulty finding a project that they had found on a previous visit to our site.  We have added a link to our "Search" web page in the red navigation banner on our home page and from many other important pages like this newsletter.  The "Search" link will take you to a web page that allows you to enter a search term, and search our web site using the Google search engine.  This isn't a perfect environment, as Google takes about 6 months to add our new web pages to their index, but it is the best we can do with our resources.  To try this search capability please select the word "Search" in the red navigation banner above.  On the resulting web page, please enter your search term in the window that says "Google Custom Search" in faint letters, then select "Search".  A new window will open with the results of that search.

Blue Zircon Jewelry Making Gemstone AAA GradeBirthstone for December:  The birthstone for December is the blue zircon. Please select here to view more information on blue zircon gemstones.  We sell man made blue zircon gemstones.  Please select the picture at right to view these products in our Internet store.  This month, we have placed our mined, 8mm AAA grade man-made Blue Zircon Gemstone, item 3200, on sale for $8.99 per pair.

WigJig Is Moving:  Starting soon after the new year, WigJig intends to move out of Maryland and into Texas.  This is good news for our customers living in Maryland because it means that you will no longer be charged Maryland Sales Tax on your WigJig orders.  Unfortunately, it is bad news for our customers in Texas as it means that we will need to start charging sales taxes for orders shipped to Texas.  The Texas sales tax is 8.25%.  Our hope is that we will be able to work with local bead shops in Texas to hold demonstrations of our tools.  If that happens we will announce the times and locations in our newsletter prior to the demonstrations.

Trident Jewelry Wire & Beads Necklace Jewelry Making ProjectsFree Jewelry Making Design:

With every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  This week's new design is our design for the Trident Beads & Jewelry Wire Earrings shown at right.  In this project we show a new technique for wrapping wire around itself to make any wire component permanent.  We also make loops that are oblong by using two pegs instead of one.  Finally, we use a new approach for keeping your bead dangles in position by using a jump ring.

This project is not suitable as a very first jewelry making project, but it is an advanced beginner's project and is suitable for anyone with a little experience.

We used a pattern on our WigJig Centaur to make these earrings, but the design could be made on almost any jig.  We used 20 gauge jewelry wire, but the design could be made with 18 gauge jewelry wire for a bolder look

Please select here, or select the picture above, to view our detailed instructions for making the Trident Jewelry Wire & Beads Earrings.

Past Jewelry Making Techniques:

We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters.  You can visit this web page here.  Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter.

Jewelry Making Technique: Replacing Crimp Beads when Using Soft Flex Jewelry Making Technique

This month's jewelry making technique is some discussion on how to use solid jewelry wire to replace a crimp bead when stringing beads on bead stringing wire or thread.   We like this technique because it is strong, it looks attractive and it doesn't force us to keep a lot of crimp beads available.   You can view this Replacing Crimp Beads with Wire Jewelry Making Techniquetechnique at right.

In order to replace a crimp bead with jewelry wire, we use 20, 22 or 24 gauge solid jewelry wire to make a wire component that includes a loop.  The loop can be connected to a clasp or yoke as shown in these pictures.  The tools required are bent chain nose pliers, a metal hemostat, a flush cutter, and round nose pliers or fine step jaw pliers.

This technique involves wrapping wire around itself to connect your bead stringing wire to a loop of solid jewelry wire.  Performing the wraps involved is an intermediate jewelry making technique.

Nostalgia Corner -- Some of our favorite jewelry making projects:

Interchangeable Beads Earrings Jewelry Making ProjectInterchangeable Beads Earrings Jewelry Making ProjectThis week's featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for our Interchangeable Beads Earrings.  This project allows you to make earrings where the bead dangle can be removed and replaced.  This is a great design for people who travel a lot and want to have variety in their jewelry without carrying a lot of different pieces of jewelry.  Instead you can carry many different beads dangles with one pair of these ear wires.

These earrings are easy to make and therefore are a beginner's jewelry project.  We also have one more advanced interchangeable design in our online book "Interchangeable Earrings".  You can find that book in our Internet store here.

Please select here, or select the picture above right to view our free instructions for making our Interchangeable Beads Earrings using our WigJig jewelry tools.
