Breast Cancer Awareness Charm for Jewelry Making

Contribution to Race for the Cure:  WigJig will contribute $1 for every order placed with our company between September 17th and October 17th to the Race for the Cure.  Race for the Cure is part of the Susan G Komen foundation and is a charity that supports research toward a cure for breast cancer.  The foundation has helped train more than 400 breast cancer researchers and has funded more than 1,800 research projects over the past 26 years.  In fact the Komen Foundation has provided more money for breast cancer research and community health programs than any other organization with the exception of the US Government.  We at WigJig have also placed our breast cancer awareness charm on sale for$2.23 each, 20% off the normal retail price.  Finally, for those who want to contribute to the Komen Foundation directly, you can visit http://ww5.komen.org/

Google Language Translation:  We are experimenting with the Google Translation module on our web site and our store.  This software is undergoing beta testing by Google.  It is far from perfect, but it may be better than nothing for our foreign readers.  You can view the translation module in the upper right portion of this web page.  The good news is that this module will automatically and rapidly translate any web page to one of 35 languages.  The bad news is that the translations are not perfect.  There is more bad news -- you need to be able to read English to know where to go to request the translation.  We hope that this application will help some of our readers to better enjoy our web site.  If you would like to send us a comment on this translation software please click here.  We don't have any ability to change the8mm Man Made Green Tourmaline Gemstone for Jewelry Makingtranslation software, but we can remove it from our web site if it doesn't work.

Birthstone for October:  The Birthstone for October is the tourmaline. Please select here to view more information on tourmaline gemstones.  This month we are discounting our 8mm man-made green tourmaline (Item 3333) by 20%.  Please select the picture at right to view this product.

New Jewelry Making Supplies:

We have just added 4mm low wall bezel findings to our Internet store.  Now we have low wall bezel findings in sizes from 4mm to 10mm.  These findings are one of the easiest ways to make jewelry.  You can view a simple earring jewelry making project with our low wall bezel findings below-left.  We also have a You Tube Video that shows how to use our low wall bezel findings to make earrings.  You can view that jewelry making video here.  You can view a close up of our 4mm low wall bezel findings below center-right and below far-right.  Finally, in our new jewelry project for this month, we used our low wall bezel findings to make dangle earrings.  You can view those dangle earrings below center-left.

Our Apologies:  We were not able to send a newsletter in September.  We are very sorry.  WigJig as a company is in the process of moving.  We are moving out of Maryland and ultimately will move to Florida or Texas.  Both states have many benefits, including the fact that neither state has a state income tax.  We hope to make a final decision on our move during the month of October.  As anyone who has ever moved can testify, moving is a time consuming process.  Our hope is that we will be able to get our future newsletters out in a timely manner without sacrificing quality. Again, we apologize to our newsletter subscribers that we have not been able to provide the number and quality of newsletters that we wanted.

Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire &Bemstoness Earrings Jewelry Making ProjectsFree Jewelry Making Design:

Low Wall Bezel Wire & Gemstones Earrings Jewlery Making ProjectWith every newsletter we provide a new jewelry design from WigJig University to spur the creative juices.  This week's new design is our design for the Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire & Gemstones Earrings shown left and right.  These earrings can be made either with our new 4mm low wall bezel findings or with our 6mm low wall bezel findings.  These earrings are made from several simple to make wire components that are connected together.  For that reason, this is a beginner's jewelry making project.

In the earring design shown at left, we recommend using 4mm low wall bezel findings.  The pattern for the earrings shown at right is better for 6mm low wall bezel findings.

These earrings can be made using our WigJig Delphi, WigJig Centaur, WigJig Olympus-Lite or WigJig Olympus with seven regular metal pegs for the jig.  You can find a WigJig Centaur template for this jewelry making project here.

For beginners, we recommend using 20 gauge wire for this project.  For slightly more advanced wire workers, we recommend using 18 gauge wire.  For the earrings shown above, we used 18 gauge wire for a slightly bolder look.

Please select here, or select the picture above, to view our detailed instructions for making the Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire and Gemstones Earrings.

Past Jewelry Making Techniques:

We maintain a techniques web page that provides links to the discussion of techniques in our prior newsletters.  You can visit this web page here.  Follow the links on that page to the discussion of the technique in that newsletter.

Jewelry Making Technique:

Wire Gauge Measuring ToolThis month's jewelry making technique is some discussion on how to measure the gauge of jewelry wire using a wire gauge.  In the picture at left, you can view our wire gauge, item 3434, shown in roughly life size.  In the picture at right, you can view a close up of the wire gauge.  As shown at right, there are a series of holes in the wire gauge and notches or grooves between the hole and the outside of the wire gauge.  There are also three numbers associated with each hole.

First, the important part of the wire gauge isn't the holes, it is the notch between the hole and the edge of the wire gauge.  This notch is created to exactly measure the diameter of the wire being measured.  To use the gauge, you slide your wire from the outside of the tool to the hole in the tool by placing your wire in the notch.  Keep trying notches until you find the smallest notch that your wire can pass through.  That notch represents the diameter of your wire.

Second, the three numbers associated with each hole represent the diameter of the wire in decimal inches, in American Wire Gauge (AWG) and in mm.  The top number is the diameter in decimal inches.  The middle number is the American Wire Gauge or gauge.  The bottom number is the diameter in millimeters.

Onyx Four Leaf Clover Jewelry Wire & Beads Earrings Jewelry Making ProjectFour Leaf Clover Jewelry Wire & Beads Earrings Jewelry Making ProjectEmerald Four Leaf Clover Jewelry Wire & Beads Earrings Jewelry Making ProjectThis week's featured design in our Nostalgia Corner is the design for our four leaf clover earrings.  This is an excellent beginner's project and makes earrings that are quite attractive.  This project can be made with any of our jigs using four regular metal pegs.  We use 4mm beads for the earrings at left and near right, with three beads per earring.  You can also use a single 6mm or 8mm bead as shown in the earring shown far-right.

Please select here, or select the picture above right to view our free instructions for making our Four Leaf Clover Earrings made using our WigJig jewelry tools.
