This technique is generally used when connecting two components. In order for certain components to align properly, the loops need to be reoriented, frequently by 90 degrees.
Step-by-step instructions for making a Y connector out of jewelry wire using WigJig jewelry tools:
Step 1: You usually want to convert the loops on your jewelry wire connector/component to eye loops. When both loops are converted, the jewelry wire component will appear as shown below in Step 1.
Step 2: Using your bent chain nose pliers, grasp each eye loop and rotate it to the desired orientation, usually 90 degrees. The picture below for Step 2 is taken from the side so that you can see the orientation of the two loops. Important: when reorienting the loops, rotate one clock-wise and one counter-clockwise so that both openings in the loops are on the same side of the wire component. The side visible in the center photo below is the back side of the component.
Step 3: Now, connect the first component to the second component. First, using bent chain nose pliers, open the left loop and connect it to the end loop in the spacer. Close the loop.
Open the remaining loop on the spacer, using bent chain nose pliers. Then, open the right loop of the component toward the right as you view the picture. With both loops now open, connect, and then close both loops to finish.
Summary of jewelry making instructions:
This jewelry wire connector can be used to connect a complex earring to an ear wire finding. It can also be used for connecting a complex bracelet or necklace to a single clasp. Essentially we have made a two to one connector that can connect any component or chain with two loops to a single clasp or ear wire finding. This technique is usefull when making earrings, bracelets or necklaces.
