Duplex Link

Instructions for making the Duplex jewelry wire link using our WigJig jewelry making tools:

This Duplex Link is a strong link when used in the proper orientation.  This link can be made in a variety of different sizes based upon how you connect the components.  If you use a larger bead to connect the components, you will need to make a larger duplex link.  If you choose to connect the components using figure 8 connectors, you can use almost any size of duplex link.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Making the Duplex Link out of Jewelry Wire using WigJig Jewelry Tools:

Peg Pattern on WigJig Jewelry Tool for Duplex Wire Component Jewelry Making ProjectStep 1:  Using your nylon jaw pliers, straighten a segment of jewelry wire at least three inches long.

Step 2:  Using your flush cutter, cut the jewelry wire to a length of 3 inches.

Step 3:  Using your round nose pliers, or your step jaw pliers (preferred), make a "P" loop in your jewelry wire.

Step 4:  Place pegs 1 and 2 in the WigJig jewelry tool as shown below-left.

Step 5:  Place your initial loop on peg one and place the jewelry wire adjacent to peg 2 as shown below center-right.  You can choose from many options for the size of your duplex wire component.  You can use the horizontal and vertical pattern shown above-right to make a larger wire component.  You can use the diagonal pattern to make a smaller wire component.

Step 6:  Using the tip of your index finger on your dominant hand to guide the wire, wrap the jewelry wire around peg 2 by moving the jewelry making jig with your non-dominant hand.  Push the jewelry wire until it rests adjacent to the empty hole for peg 3 with no pressure applied.

Step 7:  To make this component lay as flat as possible, at this point, we need to remove the wire component from the WigJig jewelry tool and replace it in the mirror image position.  Add peg 3 to your pattern.  Return the jewelry wire to the jewelry making jig in the position shown below-right.

Step 14:  Remove the jewelry wire from the WigJig jewelry tool and using your flush cutter, cut the excess wire.  Using your bent chain nose pliers, close the final loop.  This finishes your Duplex Link wire component.

Summary of jewelry making project:

The Duplex Link wire component can me be made in a variety of sizes and can be combined into a bracelet or used in earrings in many ways.  The simplest way to combine this wire link into a chain is to connect the loops on the sides of the wire component using figure 8 connectors.  This technique will make an all metal bracelet that is strong.  You can upgrade this all metal bracelet by connecting the same side loops using a wrapped bead link.  In the pictures below, you can view a couple of projects made using this link.
