One Piece Beaded Chandeliers

Instructions for making One Piece Chandelier Earrings out of jewelry wire, beads and common jewelry supplies using WigJig jewelry tools:

These earrings are chandelier earrings with five bead
dangles each. This jewelry making project is an advanced beginner's project.  The earrings are relatively easy to make given a grasp of the basis skills like making wire components on a WigJig jewelry tool, making a loop and finally the skill for converting a conventional loop to an eye loop.  This project uses a Figure 8 connector to connect between the ear wire and the earring body.  A jump ring or split ring could have been used instead of the figure 8 connector if desired.

Step-by-step instructions for making One Piece Beaded Chandelier Earrings made using WigJig jewelry tools out of jewelry wire, beads and common jewelry supplies:

The peg pattern for making these earrings on one of our WigJig jewelry tool with a square pattern is shown at right.  We will provide the peg pattern for a round jewelry making jig toward the end of these instructions.

Step 1:  Cut a 4 1/2 inch long segment of 20 gauge jewelry wire.  Half-hard jewelry wire is best if it is available, but soft jewelry wire will work.  Make a loop in the end of this wire segment with the flush cut (not the sharp end).

Step 2:  Straighten this jewelry wire by pulling it repeatedly through the jaws of nylon jaw pliers if you have them.

Step 7:  Remove the wire from the WigJig jewelry tool.  Add pegs 5 and 6.  Remove peg 2.  Now place the jewelry wire back on the jewelry making jig in the mirror image position as shown at right.  (This step will make the jewelry wire component symmetrical about the center of the piece.)

Step 14:  We complete this jewelry wire component by grasping the initial and final loops and bending them back to the position shown at right.  This will take some "hand finishing" meaning that you will need to bend the wire by hand some until the wire rests in the shape shown at right.

Alternative designs for making earrings using WigJig jewelry tools:

Our first alternative design is to move peg 1 at right up one hole.  This will result in earrings that are more elongated.

Our second alternative is a modification to how the top of the wire component is finished.  This alternative is slightly more difficult than the original design.  Use 5 inches of jewelry wire instead of 4 1/2.  After completing step 10 from our original design, remove the wire from the jig and insert fine step jaw pliers into the two loops around peg 1.  Now, while holding the wire component in the step jaw pliers with your non-dominant hand, wrap the wire tail around the place where the initial and final wire segments cross just below where peg 1 was.  Make two complete wraps then cut the excess wire and squeeze it flat using your bent chain nose pliers.  This design requires a modified figure 8 connector.  The finished earrings with the changes described in Alternative 1 and 2 will appear as shown below, right.

Our final alternative designs is the pattern for making these earrings using the WigJig Cyclops or Electra jewelry tool.  This pattern is shown at right.  With this pattern, peg 1 can be left where shown for elongated earrings or moved down one hole to make earrings that are closer to a diamond shape.  The earrings made with the pattern shown above right can be seen at right.  These earrings use Swarovski 6mm Bicone beads  in the color Violet (Item 0107).  The earrings at right are finished with the wrapped loop style described in Alternative 2 in the prior section.
