Four Plus One Chandeliers

Instructions for making Four Plus One Chandelier Earrings out of jewelry wire, beads and jewelry supplies using WigJig jewelry tools:

These earrings are an advanced beginners jewelry making project.  They are relatively easy to make using any of our WigJig jewelry making tools.  They are called Four plus 1 earrings because there are four bead dangles with smaller beads at the bottom of the earrings and one bead dangle in the center of the earrings using a larger bead.

The earrings on the left were made on the WigJig Cyclops or Centaur jewelry tools.  The earrings on the right were made on the WigJig Delphi or Centaur jewelry tools.

Step-by-step instructions for making Four Plus One Chandelier Earrings using WigJig jewelry tools, jewelry wire, beads and common jewelry supplies:

Step 1:  Cut two pieces of 20 gauge jewelry wire each 2 1/2 inches long.  Make a loop in one end of this wire and straighten the wire.  1/2 hard wire will work better for these earrings although soft jewelry wire will work.

Step 2:  Place the initial loop from one jewelry wire segment on peg 1 in your jewelry making jig and wrap the wire around peg 2.  Add peg 3 and wrap the wire around peg 3.

Step 3:  Place the initial loop from the second jewelry wire segment on peg 4 and wrap the wire around peg 5.  Remove peg 4 and position pegs 6 and 7.  Remove the wire from the WigJig jewelry tool and place the initial loop on peg 7 with the second loop on peg 6.  Now wrap the wire around peg 5.  Finally, add peg 4 and wrap the wire around peg 4.

Step 4:  Remove the jewelry wire from the WigJig jewelry tool.  At this point, the jewelry wire should appear as shown at right.

Step 5:  Cut the excess jewelry wire from both pieces of wire and using your bent chain nose pliers, close the final loop.  Your wire should appear as shown at right.

Step 6:  Now take the top wire component and using the tips of your round nose pliers, convert both bottom loops into eye loops.

Step 7:  One at a time, grasp the bottom loops of the top wire component with your bent chain nose pliers and rotate them 90 degrees.  When completed the wire component should appear as shown at right.

Step 8:  Now we need to connect the top and bottom wire components.  This is done by first opening the loop on one side of the top wire component and inserting the loop on one side of the bottom wire component.  Complete the connection of this side by closing the loop in the top wire component that was opened.

Step 9:  To connect the opposite side we need to open both the loop in the top wire component and the loop in the bottom wire component.  With both loops open, connect the two wire components and then close both loops.  When completed the earring body made up of two wire components will appear as shown at right.

Step 10:  We need to make a modified figure 8 connector out of jewelry wire to connect the top of the earring body to the ear wire finding.  This modified Figure 8 Connector is made out of about 1 1/2 inches of 20 gauge jewelry wire.  When the connector is completed connect the earring body to the ear wire finding by opening then closing the loops in the connector.

Step 11:  At this point, we need to make the two central bead dangles out of common jewelry supplies.  These dangles are made from a head pin, with the following beads threaded onto the headpin, first a 4mm bead followed by a 2x4mm silver lined bugle bead, followed by a 4mm bead, another 2x4mm silver lined bugle bead and a final 4mm bead.  Connect one of these bead dangles to each of the center loops in the bottom of the earring body.

Step 12:  The next step is to connect bead dangles to the two outside loops in the earring body wire component.  These dangles are made of a 4mm bead, a 2x4mm silver lined bugle bead and finally a 4mm bead.  Connect a bead dangle like this to each outside loop in the earring body wire component.

Step 13:  The final step in making these earrings is the 6mm bead connected to the top loop in the earring body wire component.  Allow about 1/4" or 6mm space above the 6mm bead so that the bead will hang in the middle of the earring body.  Make a bead dangle with a head pin and one 6mm bead to hang from the top loop in the earring body.  This completes your Four Plus 1 Chandelier Earrings.

Make a second earring by following the same steps.

Summary of jewelry making supplies:

This is another compound earring design made of multiple easy to make jewelry wire components connected together rather than one complex jewelry wire component.  Because of that, it is easier to make these earrings consistently.  The resulting earrings are attractive, strong and unique.  We think you will like this design.
