Low Wall Bezel Earrings 2

Instructions for making the Low Wall Bezel Dangle Earrings using jewelry wire, findings and WigJig jewelry tools:

Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire & Gemstones Earrings-- made using WigJig jewelry makign tools.Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire & Gemstones Earrings Jewelry Making ProjectIn this jewelry making project, we will make a pair of gemstone earrings.  You can view the earrings on the left and right here.  The earrings on the left use 4mm low wall bezel findings (Item 3480 in gold filled and Item 3481 in sterling silver) and 4mm gemstones set into the findings.  The earrings on the right use 6mm low wall bezel findings ( Item 3351 in sterling silver) and 6mm gemstones set into the findings.  The earrings are made almost identically with only one wire component being different.  In the middle gemstone dangle in the earrings, the 4mm earrings use a regular figure 8 connector to connect between the low wall bezel finding and the earring body for all five gemstones.  In the 6mm earrings on the right, the figure 8 connector is used for four out of five gemstones, but on the middle gemstone, we used a small spacer bar to connect between the gemstone and the earring body.  (Please note that the design on the right could be used with 4mm low wall bezel findings if you find that look more appealing.)

We like any jewelry that uses the low wall bezel finding and our "Bling" gemstones.  The gemstones have the fire and sparkle that only high quality beads possess and we believe that the finished product, these earrings, look professionally made and very high quality.  Anytime we can make jewelry that looks like it should sell for a hundred dollars or more and it only takes us 30 minutes to make them, we are happy.

These earrings are a beginner's jewelry making project.  The jewelry wire components used in making these earrings are rather easy to make.  The one caution is that for a brand new beginner, there are several skills used here.  Each skill is easy to accomplish, but because we use so many skills this design is probably not suitable as your very first jewelry making project.  For beginners we also recommend using 20 gauge wire instead of 18 gauge wire to make the earring body.

Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire & Gemstones Earrings-- made using WigJig jewelry making tools.Step-by-step instructions for making the Low Wall Bezed Dangle Earrings using WigJig jewelry tools and common jewelry supplies:

Step 1:  Cut a segment of round, preferably half-hard jewelry wire three inches long.  For beginners, use 20 gauge wire, for advanced beginners and intermediate wire workers use 18 gauge wire.

Step 2:  Using your fine step jaw pliers, make a loop in the end of the jewelry wire with the flush cut.

Step 3:  Hold the loop in the end of the wire and straighten the wire segment by pulling it repeatedly through the jaws of your nylon jaw pliers.

Step 4:  Here is the template on our WigJig jewelry tool for this design.  If you are working from your computer keep this template open to view the peg numbers used in our description.

Step 5:  First we will make the bottom wire component.  Place pegs 1 and 2 in your WigJig jewelry tool as shown below-left.  Place the loop in your wire segment on peg 1 and wrap the wire around peg 2 until the wire rests adjacent to the empty hole for peg 3 with no pressure applied.

Step 6:  The process we will use for making this bottom wire component is to flip the piece over after each loop.  We do this so that the finished piece will be two layers of jewelry wire instead of growing in height from one side of the component to the other.  To flip this piece over, first remove the wire from your jig.  Then you remove pegs 1 and 2 and then add pegs 3, 4, and 5.  Place your initial loop on peg 5 and the second loop on peg 4, then wrap your wire around peg 3, until the wire is adjacent to the empty hole for peg 2 as shown below-center.

Step 7:  Remove the jewelry wire component from your jewelry making jig.  Continue by removing peg 5 and adding pegs 1 and 2.  Wrap the wire around peg 4 and continue pushing the wire until the wire rests adjacent to the empty hole for peg 5 with no pressure applied.  See the picture below-right.

Step 8 to making the Low Wall Bezel Dangle Earrings using WigJig jewelry making tools.Step 8:  Now add peg 5 to your jewelry making jig and wrap the wire around peg 5 as shown at right.

Step 9:  Remove the bottom wire component from your WigJig jewelry tool.  It should appear as shown below-left.  If it doesn't appear like this it may be that you did not push the wire until it was adjacent to the next hole in the pattern and then remove your grip on the wire.  With half-hard wire the wire will spring back after being pushed and you need to push the wire until it remains adjacent to the next hole in the pattern with no pressure applied.  If you have followed this step properly, your jewelry wire component should appear exactly as shown, once you remove it from your jig.

Step 10:  Using your flush cutter, cut the excess jewelry wire and close the final loop using your bent chain nose pliers.  Once completed, the bottom wire component should appear as shown below-center.  Squeeze the wire component with your nylon jaw pliers to flatten it and harden the piece.

Step 11:  Now we are ready to make the two spacer bars that connect the bottom wire component to the jump ring that will be used to connect the wire component to the earring body.  To make this spacer bar wire component, cut a segment of round wire 2 inches long.  Make a loop in the end of the wire with the flush cut, then straighten the wire by holding the loop in the wire with one hand while pulling the wire through the jaws of your nylon jaw pliers.  Once your jewelry wire is straight, place the loop in the wire on peg 6 in your WigJig jewelry tool and wrap the wire around peg 7 as shown below-right.

Step 12:  Finish the spacer bar by cutting the excess jewelry wire with your flush cutter, closing the loop in the wire with your bent chain nose pliers and using your round nose pliers to convert the "P" loop to eye loops.

Step 13:  Make two spacer bars for each earring following steps 11 and 12.

Step 14:  Now we need to make a medium size jump ring to connect between the two spacer bar components and the ear wire finding.  You could also connect the spacer bar components to the ear wire finding with a figure 8 connector.  Either the jump ring or the figure 8 connector will work.    Our instructions for making the jump ring can be found here.  Our instructions for making a figure 8 connector can be found here.  Make two jump rings or figure 8 connectors.  For a beginner, we would recommend using figure 8 connectors instead of jump rings as the figure 8 connector is slightly easier to connect between the spacer bars and the ear wire finding.

Step 15:  Once you have completed making two bottom wire components, four spacer bar components and two jump rings or figure 8 connectors and you have your commercial ear wires, then you are ready toStep 15 to instructions for making the Low Wall Bezel Dangle Earrings showing jewelry wire components connected.begin assembling the earrings.  The steps to assemble these earrings can be found beginning below.

Step 16:  Open one end of the spacer bar and connect it to one side of the bottom wire component.  Using a second spacer bar, perform the same steps on the opposite side of the bottom wire component.

Step 17:  Using a figure 8 connector, open one side of the Figure 8 connector and connect both spacer bars to that open figure 8 connector, then close the loop in the figure 8 connector.  Open the top loop in the figure 8 connector and connect the jump ring finding.  Using a medium jump ring, open the jump ring and connect both spacer bars and the ear wire finding to the open jump ring then close the jump ring.

Step 19:  To connect the low wall bezel finding to the loops in the bottom wire component we use figure 8 connectors.  Make ten figure 8 connectors if you are using the 4mm findings or eight figure 8 connectors if you are using 6mm findings.

Jewelry wire on WigJig jewelry tool as part of Step 20 to instructions for making the Low Wall Bezel Earrings.Step 20:  For the 6mm findings, we use a small spacer bar finding to connect between the low wall bezel finding and the middle loop in the bottom wire component.  Use about 1 1/4" of jewelry wire and follow the pattern shown at left on your WigJig jewelry tool.  Follow our instructions here for making the spacer bar wire component.

Step 21:  Use your figure 8 connectors to connect all 4mm low wall bezel findings to the five bottom loops in the bottom wire component.  Do this for both earrings.  Use the figure 8 connectors to connect four low wall bezel findings to the outside loops on the bottom wire component.  Use the small spacer bar component to connect one 6mm low wall bezel finding to the center loop in the bottom wire component.  Do this for both earrings. Finished 4mm Low Wall Bezel Jewelry Wire and Gemstones Earrings Jewelry Making Project.

Summary of jewelry making instructions:

This should complete your earrings.  The 6mm style is shown above right and the 4mm style is shown at left.  We hope you like this project.  Because you are using gemstones and findings instead of wire components and beads, these earrings are slightly more expensive than many of our projects.  For us the results were worth it.
