![]() ![]() ![]() First let's discuss why these earrings are called Square Knot earrings. The reason is simple, in these earrings we do in wire, what is done in rope to make a square knot. In rope the knot may not appear identical to these earrings because in rope the knot pulls tightly together. Because wire is stiffer than rope, this square knot in wire is more open. This Square Knot Gemstones and Beads jewelry making project is an advanced beginners project. We made these earrings in three sizes and in three different combinations of beads/gemstones. The earrings shown at right use 8mm Aquamarine gemstones along with a 4mm bicone Swarovski aqua bead. The earrings far-left use an 8mm round Swarovski violet bead. The earrings near-left use 7mm Paula Radke dichroic glass beads. For beginners you will find that it will be easier to make these earrings using 20 gauge wire, but the finished earrings will have a more bold appearance when made with 18 gauge wire. It may be a good idea to practice the technique using 20 gauge wire. Step-by-step instructions for making these earrings begin on
the next page. We will start with the instructions for making the
earrings shown above-right. |
