Bracelet Design: 

The peg pattern for the Onyx Beads Square Knot Bracelet Jewelry Making Project uses a regular metal peg and a 3/16" Super Peg, pegs 1 and 2 shown at right.  This is the smaller peg pattern for making the square knot wire component.  To make the square knot link for the bracelet, we use ten 2 1/8" segments of 20 gauge wire.  Half-hard wire will work best for making this piece.  We also need a commercial clasp and six 6mm beads.  Onyx beads were chosen for this bracelet, because we wanted to emphasize the square knot link and not the beads themselves.  Step-by-step instructions for making the bracelet begin below. 

Step 1:  Using your flush cutter, cut 10 segments of 20 gauge wire, each 2 1/8 to 2 1/4" long.  (Half hard jewelry wire is preferred if available.)

Step 2:  Using your bent chain nose pliers,  grasp the wire about 5/8" from one end and make a 90 degree bend in each segment of wire. 

Step 3:  Using your round nose pliers, make a loop in the wire as near the bend as possible.  Once you have completed the loop, adjust the position of the loop so that it is centered above the long wire tail.  This is done by placing your round nose pliers inside the loop all the way and bending the loop left or right as required until is it centered. 

Step 4:  Now we are ready to wrap this loop closed.  Grasp the loop firmly with your bent chain nose pliers.  This preserves the round shape of the loop while you wrap.  While grasping the loop, bend the short wire tail back 180 degrees. 

Step 5:  Using your flush cutter, cut the excess wire about 1/8" from the point where the wire crosses over the long wire segment.  Then squeeze the cut end flat.  This is done while holding the loop in one pair of bent chain nose pliers while you squeeze the cut end flat with another pair of pliers.
