Beginning below we will discuss a new design for a ring, similar to the above design, but with raised loops used to hold a bead or beads in the center of the design. This design uses 18 gauge soft wire for the body of the ring, 24 gauge wire for mounting the bead between the loops in the ring and 21 gauge 1/2 round or 22 or 24 gauge round wire for wrapping on either side of the center of the ring. The ring can be made with any WigJig tool using three metal pegs and will require a ring mandrel to complete the ring. Pictures of this new ring can be seen below. These pictures are slightly larger than the actual size of the ring. Step-by-step instructions for making this ring begin below. This is an advanced beginners jewelry making project. Please remember to use practice wire for the first several attempts until you are satisfied with the product.
Step 1: Straighten a segment of 18 gauge soft wire 7 inches long
using your nylon
Step 2: Using your ruler, measure to the middle of the wire segment (3 1/2" from either end.) Grasp the wire about 1/8" from the middle using your bent chain nose pliers. Hold the wire firmly and bend the wire at the mid-point 90 degrees as shown at right. |
