Step 1: Using your flush cutter, cut five 10 1/4" long segments of wire and two 3" long segments of wire. Step 2: The two 3" long segments of wire are used to make the 2-1 end wire components. Set these two segments of wire aside and we will begin by making the five double spiral wire components using the 10 1/4" segments of wire. In one of these 10 1/4" wire segments, grasp the wire about 1/2" from the end with your bent chain nose pliers and bend the wire 90 degrees. Do the same thing for all four remaining 10 1/4" wire segments.
Step 4: Now that you have that bend, you have a handle that will allow you to straighten your wire. Hold your wire with the thumb and forefinger of your non-dominant hand and using your nylon jaw pliers in your dominant hand, pull the wire repeatedly through the jaws of the pliers to straighten the wire. Straighten all five segments of the 10 1/4" wire. |
There
are two wire components that we need to make for this bracelet.
The first wire component is the double spiral wire component that it the
major link in this bracelet. To make this wire component we use
pegs 1 through 7 as shown at right. The second wire component that
we must make is the 2-1 end component. This is the component that
connects to the commercial clasp on one end and becomes the catch for
the clasp on the opposite end. To make this 2-1 end component we
use pegs 8, 9 and 10 as shown at right. Peg 9 is a 1/4" Super Peg
for the jig we used, in this case our WigJig Centaur. For this
project, we have made a template showing the peg pattern for making this
design in the Adobe Acrobat pdf format. This pattern is for the
WigJig Centaur and should allow you to place your jig on the template
and view where to place your pegs.
Step
3: At the 1/2 inch bend that we just made, we need to prepare
the end of the wire so that we can use our Spiral Maker to make a spiral
on this end of the wire. Using your round nose pliers, make a 180
degree bend in the 10 1/4" wire segment on the long segment of wire, but
as near the 90 degree bend as possible. This bend should appear as
shown at right. To make this bend, you will grasp the wire with
your round nose pliers on the longer segment of wire, but as close to
the 90 degree bend as possible and then bend the wire around the jaw of
your pliers. Make this same bend on all five segments of wire.
