Alternative Designs: Our first alternative design for our Beaded Chandelier is a change that makes it easier to make these earrings. Instead of using Super Pegs, we will use regular metal pegs to make the yoke component that connects the V shaped wire component to the ear wire finding. We have two patterns for making the yoke using regular metal pegs. As shown at right, the Long Yoke pattern is very similar to the earrings we made on the prior pages. The Short Yoke pattern is a modification with a shorter yoke and therefore shorter over all earrings. Earrings made using either pattern are made as we described on pages 5 through 10 of this series. It requires about 2 1/2 inches of wire to make these yoke wire components. After making a yoke using pegs 1 through 5, you cut the excess wire, close the loop made on peg 5 with your chain nose pliers and at this point, you bend the loops made on pegs 1 and 5 into eye loops using the tips of your round nose pliers. At this point, you can hammer with wire component with your chasing hammer and anvil to harden it if you want. The next step in making the yoke component is to bend the loops made on pegs 1 and 5 into the perpendicular position shown. The yoke component is finished by wrapping 22 or 24 gauge wire around the neck of the yoke. The easiest way to do this is by making a U shaped bend about 3/4 inch from the end of a 2 inch segment of wire. Position this U shaped bend near one side of the yoke and squeeze the wire with your bent chain nose pliers. Now hold the wire in position with your bent chain nose pliers and wrap about three times around the yoke. Cut the excess wire and tuck in the ends. Complete these earrings as described on page 9. |
